Burlingame Business Districts Clean Up
![]()
On October 24, 2006, sixteen energetic volunteers met to brainstorm ideas on how to clean up our business district in Burlingame. The goal of this group is to identify the main concerns regarding the cleanliness of our downtown areas and establish a work program for volunteers. An inventory of problems was discussed and many common themes were apparent. These included but were not limited to:
Litter Concerns:
• Emptying trash cans more frequently
• Increasing the number of trash cans
• Hedges - used as garbage cans
• Parking lots are littered
• Trash is left on business window sills
General Maintenance Concerns:
• Increase steam cleaning of sidewalks and alleyways
• Garbage cans and poles are in need of painting
• Storm drains and gutters are blocked by garbage and leaves
• News racks need to be cleaned and painted
• Need more maintenance of the flower beds
• Awning maintenance/cleaning
• Store front Window Dressing
Perception is key when it comes to keeping people in our downtown areas. We must therefore strive to keep our city safe, clean, attractive and friendly. It is important that Burlingame residents and visitors alike enjoy their experiences in our unique downtowns.
We will be looking for volunteers and community service groups of all ages to help tidy up our downtowns and work on a variety of projects to enhance our environment.
If anyone would like to volunteer on our task force and/or volunteer in future clean-up projects, please contact Council Member Ann Keighran at ann@annkeighran.com.
Some Great Pictures to Show Our Hard Work

Burlingame is a great city to be living in....please don’t ruin it by dropping your cigarette butts on the sidewalk!

Ann definitely isn’t afraid to get her hands dirty! The bags in this picture are all filled with LITTER!
