During the past few years, the City of Burlingame and the Burlingame City Council have made some remarkable achievements. Some of them include:
- Received the Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers of America and Canada
- Developed community approval for Broadway Grade Separate and Design
- Repurposed former golf center site and are in negotiations with TopGolf for a higher and better use that is economically advantageous to Burlingame and our hotels
- Approved turfing Murray field and the installation of the energy conserving LED lighting
- Worked in conjunction with Burlingame School District and Hillsborough to provide resident and student safety upgrades
- Established maintenance standards for Burlingame Avenue and Broadway including additional investment in equipment and staff
- Promoted and adopted Peninsula Clean Energy – moved City to Eco100 all renewable and GHG free electricity
- Joined and participated in San Mateo County Home For All to address the Jobs/Housing gap
- Approved City Parking Lots F/N for affordable workforce and senior housing
- Evaluated ways to address future increasing pension financial obligations due to declining investment assumptions
- Informed and commenced drafting of the City’s over 40 year old General Plan with Envision Burlingame to update zoning standards
- Completed the Burlingame Downtown Specific Plan
- Involved in conversations to install new dog washing station and benches for the Bay-Side dog park
- Completed community fundraising for Easton Branch for $73,000
- Facilitated multiple meetings regarding High Speed Rail and advocating for underground alignment which would minimize community impacts
- Received $562,000 award for Bicycle improvements and downtown streetscape improvements project
- Completed the environmental certification of the Broadway/U.S. Highway 101 interchange project
- Burlingame Downtown Specific Plan and Housing Element Plan Update was approved
- Green initiatives: Created green point checklists for construction projects
- Park and Recreation Department increased the number of fitness classes offered by 45 percent to promote health and wellness in the Burlingame Community
- Received $36 million in Measure A grant funds for the Broadway Interchange Project construction – project is now complete on time and in budget
- Developed the Downtown Burlingame Avenue streetscape project design and construction planning. Received $600,000 in grants for the streetscape project
- Completed conversion of approximately 800 city owned streetlights to energy-saving LED lights
- Began sharing fire administrative services with Millbrae and San Bruno Fire Departments
- Approved Burlingame Point Project located on Airport Blvd. Consists of approximately 760,000 square feet of office or life science uses, retail and restaurant uses, improved Bay trail amenities and a recreational facility
- Banned the use of polystyrene food containers
- Approved Safeway development proposal
- Enacted leaf blower ordinance
- Tightened wireless communication regulations
- Researched parking lot development in downtown Burlingame
